The Office of
Missing Persons Act was passed in Parliament on 12.8.16, during the rule of the
Yahapalana puppet government. It was rushed through Parliament ignoring
objections. It went
through all three readings within 40 minutes. The Bill was not referred to
Supreme Court.
The
Joint Opposition refused to accept OMP Bill as properly passed. They said Parliament had not followed proper
procedures in adopting it. It was passed
against the Standing Orders of Parliament. Only a Bill passed in accordance
with the Standing Orders could be accepted as a proper piece of

The Fiji Police Force and the National Fire Authority are currently investigating two separate fire incidents in Taveuni last night.
The first incident was in Naqara where a shop caught fire.
Police say they also received a report that the Macuata Muslim League Mosque was on fire and a team was deployed however the fire was already put out by a neighbour.
The Divisional Crime Officer North and a team from CID Labasa have been deployed to assist with the investigations.

88 families who have been in isolation for more than 10 to 12 days and were yet to receive food rations packs were assisted by the government distribution team yesterday.
So far, the government has distributed around 18,881 groceries and essential items packs to families in targeted lockdown and home isolation.
The distribution team also delivered 787 household packs yesterday to families in home isolation in the Lami, Suva, Nasinu, Nausori, Sigatoka, Nadi and Lautoka areas.

The Fiji Police Force are doing joint investigations with the National Fire Authority following two fire reports in Taveuni last night.
According to police, a report was received that a shop located in Naqara was on fire whereby Police and NFA officials attended to the scene.
Another report was received that the Macuata Muslim League Mosque was on fire whereby a team was deployed however the fire was already put out by a neighbour.
The Divisional Crime Officer North and a team from CID Labasa have been deployed to assist with the investigations.
